Soul Fly Club presents a cyanotype workshop led by artist Qiaira Riley that honors childhood photographs as living archives through this alternative photographic process. Cyanotypes are an early photographic technique that uses light-sensitive chemistry and sun exposure to create deep blue, archival prints—transforming images into layered studies of memory, time, and materiality. In this hands-on session, participants are invited to use childhood photographs and other memorabilia from their personal or family archives that hold meaning, memory, or history, and reinterpret them through cyanotypes. Using light, water, and time, these images are reimagined as poetic blue impressions, shifting everyday photographs into reflective objects of personal and collective archive.Participants will be guided through the technical process while also engaging the conceptual possibilities of working with photography as a form of memory-making and preservation. Together, the session becomes a shared space for reflection and creative transformation—where childhood, lineage, and personal histories are held, re-seen, and reimagined through light-sensitive image-making. You must email us childhood photos 1 week BEFORE the workshop to have them turned into photo negatives or bring your own negatives. Positive photos will not work. All photos should be emailed to: qiaira14@gmail.com This event is for BIPOC and queer folks.
