Legacy Lunches: The Guerrilla Girls
Join us for a casual lecture, pizza lunch, and painting session! The Guerilla Girls are an anonymous collective of feminist activist-artists formed in New York City in 1985 to combat racism and sexism within the art world. The members famously wear gorilla masks during appearances and adopt the pseudonyms of deceased female creators, such as Frida Kahlo and Kathe Kollwitz. They are best known for using provocative poster campaigns, bold statistics, and sharp humor to expose the severe under representation of women and artists of color in major museums and galleries. Ms. Amy will give a short lecture on the Guerrilla Girls founding and artwork through their founding to today. During the talk, we’ll enjoy a pizza lunch and color our own guerilla mask. Afterwards, you will paint your own snarky woman painting.
