WHYY Bridging Blocks - Gentrification: Prosperity or Displacement?

Tuesday, February 3, 2026, 10:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Fishtown Community Library
Free
Hosted by @fishtownlibrary

We are very excited to host WHYY for a Bridging Blocks discussion on Tuesday February 3 from 5:00-6:30pm!m. The discussion topic will be gentrification, a process that has undeniably impacted Philadelphia and especially Fishtown for better or worse (or both?). A moderated conversation will consider whether there is a way to reap the benefits of neighborhood revitalization while avoiding social and economic disparities, how gentrification affects affordability and housing scarcity, and if neighborhood culture is dead. A collaborative series by WHYY News and the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Bridging Blocks program is an initiative that brings together community members on hot-button topics to foster civic dialogue in supportive spaces. Bridging Blocks was created to help residents build the skills to engage in civic dialogue while breaking down echo chambers. Help welcome us back to the branch after a lengthy HVAC construction closure by joining us for this significant event and meeting and engaging with neighbors on this important topic!
