This Weekend in Philadelphia: An After-Hours Book Fair, a Vinyl Swap, and a Phone-Free Puzzle Hunt
Published August 13, 2026

Philadelphia has 62 events on the calendar for August 14–16, and 22 of them cost nothing. Friday leans indoors and after dark — a book fair, a record swap, an opening night at Theatre Exile. Saturday and Sunday spread out across Old City, the Parkway, Northern Liberties, and West Philly, with a lot of it under $15. The eight picks below cover each day and each end of the price range.

Top picks for the weekend

No. 01
After Hours Book Fair
Friday, 6:00 PM • The Proscenium at The Drake • $15
Beloved Philadelphia bookstores and newer shops set up together for a few after-hours in Center City, with drinks and music alongside the books, and the booksellers themselves on hand. Rising 8th graders and younger get in free, which makes the $15 easier to justify if you're bringing kids along.

Vinyl Swap
Friday, 7:00 PM • 5231 Germantown Avenue • Free
Soul Fly Club runs this as a listening session as much as a trade — bring a record to swap, share, or just talk about, and a communal setup lets people play selections through the night. One thing to know before you go, it's for BIPOC and queer folks only, and the host is explicit that no collection is too small and no level of expertise is required.

Philly Women’s Theatre presents the new play, “Tell Me a Love Story”
Friday, 7:00 PM • Theatre Exile • $30
Megan McDermott's new play follows an aspiring hat designer and a psychology student as they chase their passions, protect their children, and find their footing through each other — part of the Philadelphia Women's Theatre 11th annual festival. It runs Friday through Sunday at Theatre Exile, and student and industry discount codes bring the $30 general admission down to $15.

Olde City Tour ☕️
Saturday, 10:00 AM • Elfreth's Alley • $40
Four coffee stops around Old City with a beverage tasting at each, plus some background on roasting and the history of the blocks you're walking. The $40 standard ticket is the entry point; $60 adds a tote and a shop list, and $85 adds a fifth stop and an espresso martini, which stretches the tour about 15 minutes longer.

Saturday, 3:00 PM • Philadelphia Museum of Art Steps • $5

Summer Super SWAP: A size and gender inclusive clothing swap
Sunday, 11:00 AM • Rotunda • $12
Phillyswap teams with two other organizers for a five-hour swap where clothes get sorted by type and size rather than by men's and women's, with straight and plus sizes both welcome. Bring clean seasonal clothing, jewelry, accessories, or shoes; it's $7 in advance versus $12 the day of, volunteers swap free, and the organizers say nobody is turned away for lack of funds.

Sunday, 5:00 PM • Watkins Drinkery • Free
